SheQu is a shoes brand from the city of Ningbo specializing in ladies’ footwear. Ningbo, a large port city connected to Shanghai via a 30+km ocean bridge, apart from being famous for local seafood dishes, is also know as a center for textile and clothing manufacture.
It is far from easy to be a respected local brand name in Mainland China. Partly because of great abundance of every kind of product on the market, partly because of poor anti-piracy and copyright law enforcement, locals are used to their “Normandy Crocodile” and “Clio Coddle” polos, both sporting Lacoste logos (crocodile theme is especially popular with local “brands”) and Wanabe sneakers with Adidas logo – these two are actually well recognized brands all by themselves. (Fresh line-up of fake brands in China available here).
It is thus worth mentioning, if not spectacular, that in just 5 years from the day the company was founded, SheQu became a recognized local brand with completely original branding and product design and stores in large cities like Shanghai and Beijing.
SheQu is not easily translated from Mandarin: the character “She” means “to go through”, “to experience”, while “Qu” stands for “interest” or “delight”. We certainly did experience delight when we first saw the scope of SheQu collections. Almost every imaginable type of footwear is present among their shoes. Sandals, low, mid, high heels and wedges, sneakers and casual flatsoles in many variations are all present and available in cotton, satin, hemp, natural and man-made leather.
We currently carry most of SheQu “vegan” shoes.
